A dryad named Ilia reveals herself to a mage (listener) who frequently visits her forest, claiming she wants to protect them from the harshness of the mortal world. After leading the mage to her secluded palace, she uses magical pollen to induce a state of calm and relaxation.
Ilia explains that she has watched the mage's suffering and offers an escape from their burdens in exchange for their name. Once the mage complies, she reveals that giving a name to a fae grants them ownership of the soul. The mage begins to transform, growing roots and joining a choir of previous victims who have been turned into trees to sing for eternity in her garden.
